Renovation Design for Vintage Houses - The Crafted Home
Arts & Crafts Ginkgo Frieze Fireplace
This fireplace face and hearth were designed to restore an appropriate look in a charming Washington Park bungalow. Gloss glazed art tiles were selected for their rich color that combines greens, rust, tan, yellow, and an iridescent tan (note the areas that look "whiteish" in the photograph, due to iridescence.

The tile layout is a grid that has been modified by using 2x2 and 2x4 tiles arranged within a 4" x 4" framework, in the manner of Craftsman-era tile maker Ernest Batchelder. Note the complementing layout of the hearth in this photo, and the next photo in this section.

The homeowner's existing brass fireplace doors were retained.
